crisis management: lessons learned in immigration and mobility—listen to the latest cartus webinar!

I recently had the pleasure of hosting a Cartus webinar, “Crisis Management: Lessons Learned in Immigration and Mobility,” with a panel of experts including Paul Trigg, Director, Global Talent Mobility, Cartus and Fragomen Partners, Ryan Freel, Rajiv Naik, and Christine Sullivan. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our panelists for their insights. The best practices and real-life examples they shared were invaluable.

If you missed the live event, you can watch the recording here.

Conversation highlights

Following, are talking points that reflect what was discussed during the one-hour session:

  • Ryan Freel, Partner, Fragomen talks about immigration services in relation to the relocation journey: “Immigration is critical to the success of a relocation. The common misconception is that our job is to just get the work permit, but the ultimate goal is to manage everybody’s stress levels. To ensure [the relocating employee] hits the ground running when going on an international relocation.”
  • Christine Sullivan, Partner, Fragomen on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within global mobility: “We don’t just have to look inward on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion but looking at what [Cartus and Fragomen’s] core work is… We are creating diverse workforces as we do our jobs and it’s really important to look at that aspect of the work and make sure that as organizations, we’re applying the same evaluation and thoughtfulness to the core work we’re doing, not just to the ecosystems in which we’re doing it in.”
  • Rajiv Naik, Partner, Fragomen on the digital transformation in immigration and global mobility: “The user experience is improving and accessibility is increasing, but we are seeing much more compliance and data sharing between government organizations. The authorities are increasing their compliance functions and sharing data between themselves, including immigration, tax, and labor authorities, for example.”
  • Paul Trigg, Director, Global Talent Mobility, Cartus on his key takeaway from the webinar: “When businesses need to make decisions quickly and they’ve not explored all areas of risk, that decision has some form of impact that needs to be assessed, not only Internally with relevant stakeholders but with those that have the valuable [mobility and immigration] expertise like Cartus and Fragomen. Never make assumptions. Always get conclusive direction from the specialists… Elevate compliance over convenience. We find that time pressures can lead to cutting corners, which cause a whole host of issues.”
