He was rewarded with a bottle of elixir by the Queen Mother of the West for this good deed. One day, a greedy student of Hou Yi came to steal the elixir and,\u00a0during the fight,\u00a0Chang \u2018er swallowed\u00a0it,\u00a0flew to the moon and become immortal.\u00a0Missing his wife,\u00a0Hou Yi started the ritual of worshipping the moon every year in\u00a0the\u00a0hope of\u00a0her\u00a0return, and every year since, the people also worshipped the moon with food offerings and\u00a0gathered\u00a0to admire the moon to commemorate this day.\n\nLet\u2019s\u00a0take a look\u00a0at how some of our\u00a0Cartus colleagues\u00a0celebrate the festival:\n\n","rich_text_content2":"","title":"","sub_title":"","sub_text":"","display_primary_cta":true,"label_for_primary_cta":"","download_pdf_or_link":false,"download_pdf":null,"download_link":"","primary_video_or_image":false,"primary_image":16621,"primary_video":{"video_title":"","video_type":"youtube","video_id":""},"rich_text_content3":"<em>The Mid-Autumn Festival is a favourite family tradition of ours and it is celebrated yearly with my extended family. The full moon symbolises family reunion and it means a gathering of\u00a0three\u00a0generations having dinner together on the eve of the Mooncake Festival.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\n\n<em>The highlight of the evening begins when the celebration moves outdoors. Under the moon, we will set up a table filled\u00a0with mooncakes, fruits (i.e.\u00a0grapes, pomelo), incense and tea to worship\/admire the moon.\u00a0The kids have fun lighting paper lanterns and eating mooncakes (a\u00a0sweet cake usually made of red bean paste\/lotus seed\u00a0paste)\u00a0which is often gifted to family and friends in pretty packaging.<\/em>\n\n<em>In Hong Kong, in conjunction with the celebration, we like to attend a popular fire dragon dance held in the Tai Hang, Causeway Bay neighbourhood. It is a tradition for more than 100 years,\u00a0which started after a plague broke out in Tai Hang. To ward off the disease, local villagers crafted a dragon and inserted joss sticks all over it. Villagers would parade with the fire dragon around the village and let off firecrackers. The plague ended shortly afterwards. This is\u00a0really unique,\u00a0so if you are in Hong Kong during this period, be sure to catch it!<\/em>\n\n<em>- Alison Luk, Premier Executive, Global Talent Mobility<\/em>\n\n<em>In China\u00a0we attach great importance to Mid-Autumn Festival. Families will gather for a\u00a0\"reunion dinner,\"\u00a0 as \"Reunion\" &\u00a0\"Togetherness\"\u00a0are the essence of Mid-Autumn Festival. No matter how far away one lives,\u00a0you are\u00a0expected to return home for the family reunion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\n\n<em>While devouring the sumptuous dinner and mooncakes, we will also enjoy the glorious full moon on the night of the festival. Both the moon and the mooncake are round, symbolising family reunion.\u00a0<\/em>\n\n<em>Mooncakes are also given out before Mid-Autumn Festival as a form of blessing to family, friends and colleagues. I used to watch the full moon with my family and friends and those were great times!<\/em>\n\n<em>There are many poets in China who wrote about the moon, such as\u00a0Su\u00a0Shi and Li Bai. I really admire and appreciate their poems\u00a0as they remind me of\u00a0my family and friends in my hometown,\u00a0Taiwan.\u00a0Those poems\u00a0seem to\u00a0express my homesickness\u2014like the writers knew\u00a0me from thousands of years ago!\u00a0<\/em>\n\n<em>During\u00a0Mid-Autumn Festival, we will eat\u00a0mooncakes and grapefruit.\u00a0Although mooncakes are\u00a0pretty sweet\u00a0and high in calories, we still have it once a year as part of the festival tradition. I\u00a0like having\u00a0my mooncake with a nice cup of green tea\u00a0to wash it down, it is\u00a0a great combination.\u00a0 Recently,\u00a0mooncakes have evolved and\u00a0there are\u00a0many options including those with\u00a0less sugar\u00a0or\u00a0ice-cream version vs the traditional red bean paste ones.<\/em>\n\n<em>I can\u2019t wait to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival this year!\u00a0 I will do the\u00a0same\u2014reciting\u00a0the poems, eating\u00a0mooncakes\u00a0and missing my family\u00a0while admiring the\u00a0big bright moon.\u00a0<\/em>\n\n<em>- Jessica Chien, International Payroll Accountant, Corporate Finance<\/em>\n\n<em>My Mid-Autumn Festival celebration starts on the eve\u00a0of the holiday. We will\u00a0gather together\u00a0with our extended family for a meal, followed by mooncake sampling. We also pair it with some Pu-er (red tea) and pomelo as they go so well together.\u00a0On the actual day itself, the neighbours and I will gather to bring our children on a night walk with their colourful lanterns leading the way,\u00a0while admiring the full moon.
