In many industries, sharing religious\u00a0or\u00a0political perspectives are off limits, and in workplaces across the globe, women continue to feel as though they should not divulge too much information about their parental responsibilities to their coworkers.\u00a0From where do these\u00a0nuances of \u201cprofessionalism\u201d originate?\u00a0Who decides what behaviors and qualities\u00a0are\u00a0considered \u201cprofessional\u201d?\u00a0And is it possible that part of the definition we have become accustomed to is one where \u201cunprofessional\u201d actually means \u201cbehaviors and appearances that make me uncomfortable\u201d?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\n\nAs we learn more about unconscious biases and the concept of\u00a0covering\u2014where,\u00a0in an effort to\u00a0conform to accepted norms of a given workplace, employees feel the need to hide aspects of themselves from their coworkers\u2014it\u00a0is important to address\u00a0which\u00a0environmental factors are working against us as we attempt to foster more inclusive workspaces. One such factor in company culture is our definition of \u201cprofessional\u201d behavior and to what extent it includes an individual\u2019s physical appearance, speech patterns,\u00a0and
